Quick Disconnect Question

Hey Everyone,

I am preparing to purchase the fittings for my watercooled system and thought about getting a couple of quick disconnects to attach to the res in order to facilitate easy refills. I "may" add two more sets between the in and out ports of my GPU setup and the connected rads as I "may" upgrade the waterblock on the GPUs in the future. Again, the convenience of not having to drain the whole system to do simple maintinance like this is huge for me.

So my question is if the direction of the waterflow through the quick disconnects makes any difference in regards to the male and female ends of the fittings? From my res I have a need for a 90 angle so I want to make sure I buy the right angled fitting, either a 90 degree male or 90 degree female.

My first thought is that it "shouldn't" make any difference. But it never hurts to ask...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
 
QDC's can have an impact on your flow but so will angled fittings. If you go with the Koolance High flow no drip QDC's . The have both threaded and compression's as well as ones that include and angle fitting.

As far as the where the male/female is in regards to water flow it makes no difference.
 
Sad part is that the lowest point in my wc loop consists of my pumps and two rads. No real place for a drain port. I guess it's just bad design on my part but it seems like it's the only way. I am sure I will survive though. I didn't have a drain port in my last wc rig either. I used an air compressor to blow the water out of the low points in the wc loop and it worked rather well.

My only frustration from my previous rig was refilling after a routine drain or to add just a bit after a little evaporation. I had to take my case halfway apart to get to the fill port on my 5.25 bay res. This way I can pull the bay and fill it without any spills.

You are correct in that where that 90 degree angle comes in won't make a difference. The water is hitting the angle and the couplers in the disconnects either way. The amount of energy lost will be virtually the same (there's some physics that'll give you slightly better results by one config, but nothing that can even be measured).
I know what you mean with the fillport issue - I had a similar issue with my case. If you got decent pumps, you can afford the minor restriction.
