The next step in the refurb process involves~hoping the stuff works correctly. The sata adapter is handy to have around and i'm hoping the Barton's capable of 3200+
 
Yeah I was going to say their refurb stuff is really a misnomer... Its all the stuff they get back on RMA... They don't test it... 0 of 5 video cards have been returned... I learned my lesson just buy the new stuff! I love newegg (as over 20k worth of orders testify) I just would only buy stuff with a direct manufacturers warrenty hard drives and stuff. Usually newegg will only refund money if the thing is bad because they only had one or two "refurbed" items to begin with (minus shipping of course)
 
I agree. The one refurbished item that I got from Newegg was an ATI 9800Pro and it was all crapped up. It came back to them as an RMA, they took it out, confirmed it was the item they originally shipped, and then slapped it back in the box and said "FOR SALE!". That thing never went back to the manufacturer for repair. :mad:
 
I got some refurbed ram...it was tested overnight...failed at 3200 cycles.
 
hmm... i've purchased two refurbed mobo's from them, and had absolutely no problems with them. granted, they didnt come with any accessories at all, just the board in a static bag, stuck in a box, but hey, for $30 for a mobo that retails at $90 there at newegg, i'm not complaining. my main machine gets new parts only, but for my secondary machines i have no problem buying refurbed from newegg. they've been nothing but awesome on the support front, and i have no doubt that if i bought a refurb that was doa, they'd at the very least refund my money.
 
I bought a Radeon AIW 9600Pro refurbished from newegg and got pretty lucky. The card works and it came with all the cables and goodies. Retail box too. Came with the Remote ($50 value), Half-Life 2 coupon ($50 value), and a coupon for the upgraded Remote Wonder II. I've had the card for a couple months now and haven't had a problem. Haven't really messed with overclocking the card because my processor is holding me back, but I don't really care anyway.

I assume the guy who got it couldn't get it work with his system or tried to overclock it and wasn't impressed with the results. Either way it works for me :)

And on the off chance something does go wrong I can always return it to ATI, right? They (ATI) don't know (and probably don't care) it's refurbished and should honor their warranty.

The fail rate on newegg refurb video cards seems to be very high...i've seen many complaints about them. Now most other hardware on the other hand seems to have a high success rate, i've yet to see complaints on cases, psu's heatsinks and other less sensitive hardware. I see the occasional complaint about their mobo's and thats usually due to the lack of brackets, manuals etc.

I encourage all that are leary of refurbs to understand the risks first or STAY AWAY..... more refurbs for the rest of us that way :cool:
 
My refurb experience w/newegg has been hit or miss. Last time I ordered a refurb bluetooth usb dongle for 19.99. They ended up shipping me a sealed brand new one they sell for over twice the price.
 
Just got done flogging a refurb xp2800 Barton,
not sure if 2438(12.5x195) is a standard oc for
this processor but I think i'l keep it;)

ps this thing is also multi unlocked

good catch, haven't tried oc'ing my xp2500 yet....can't wait, the $5 ide/sata converter works like a charm though. Man i'm batting a freakin 1000 with refurbs so far :)
