Im upgrading to a new mobo and when I take off and transfer the copper heatsink and e6400 cpu that I have, I want to re-apply the AS5 which is on there.

My question is, can i just put another rice sized amount on the cpu/hs or do i need to first somehow fully remove the old AS5?

Thanks

It's best to remove the old AS5 before you apply the new stuff. You can do this simply with rubbing alcohol and a coffee filter. Then apply the new stuff.

Clean the CPU and heatsink with Isopropyl alcohol of 90% or greater until the cloth comes back clean...then re-apply.

I've found a Q-tip dipped in alcohol works good for cleaning off the residue, especially on chips without integrated heatspreaders (like video cards).
