Ok. Got a BRAND NEW M6810, trade in at Best Buy... 3 year PSP warranty on it, till 2007. Love it, but it's big, heavy, and, well, big... :p

Now, IBM is running a deal, $780 off of the T42. I like the T42...

I could sell the eMachines for the same amount as I could get the T42... but, I need to decide now. The lappy is mainly for work, but I do game on the side. The T42 has a 7500 Mobility Radeon, but it really isn't the 9600 I'm used to...

Sigh...

What would YOU do?
 
If you want to game on the laptop don't do it. Radeon 7500 just isn't going to do it. I have a Radeon 9000 32mb in my laptop and it's barely enough...

If you can deal with not gaming on the laptop then the T42 would be sweet.
 
Well, my friend has a T42 with that same graphics card. It depends on what resolution you play on and what game.

If it's less graphics intense games, then sure, switch (or if you play at low res).

If you play at anything higher, you'll be in for some problems with that card.

He also played CoD UO on that T42 with 8x6 and low settings and it ran smooth he said. But if you want to play anything higher/newer games... go with the Emachine.

If you brought that laptop to work every day, I'd say get the IBM. Otherwise keep the e.
 
I do take it to work everyday, but it also goes to the lan parties every month... and I play UT and Dawn of War on it...

That game was running on TNT2s and Voodoo 3s... It should run perfectly ok on the Radeon 7500 I would think. Just a thought.

I mean if you don't find the emachines unit too heavy to carry around and your happy with it, might as well hang onto it but if you can't handle carrying it and need something lighter (and a similar price), sometimes you'll have to make a bit of a sacrafice. (especially if you want to go with an IBM laptop)

Dude, there is nothing wrong with the T42 so long as you get the right model. I have a 2378FVU. Here are the specs on it:
T42 Specs
So you don't have to click on through, it has a Pentium M 1.7GHz, Dothan (so 2MB L2), Radeon 9600 video card, and a 14.1" 1400x1050 display. It is a very quick display. The battery life is amazing, the wireless is better than any I have ever used as it uses a planar antenna on the back of the display which aids in increasing signal strength, and I just love it totally. Its a great notebook and I think you would be very happy with it.

That model wasn't included in the deal I was shopping at, only the model with the 7500 (and the 1024x768 screen). And the base 1.5ghz.

IBM needs to simplify their line up and let you customize the base model to boot.

Doesn't matter, I'm keeping the 6810.
