Hi all,

I am just a little confused on the Swiftech MCR-320 which I plan on getting. If using a standard loop, (Res-Pump-Rad-CPU-Back) which inlet/outlet hole will take water from the pump and which hole will take the cooled water to the block? Maybe this does not matter but I have not found any information on this yet. also, Are the mounting holes threaded all the way through or do they stop part way in? And does the Rad come with the necessary screws or will I need to get them? Lastly, I am getting the Swiftech Micro-Res and am wondering if i cound use the mounting bracket and screw it into the Bottom of the Radiator since I will be mounting it at the top of the case. I hope all of that makes sense because I tend to make things harder than they need to be.

it does not matter which hole you use for in/out on the rad. and NO they are not threaded all the way through, make sure your screws arn't to long because if they are and you try to screw it all the way in you will puncture your rad and turn it into scrap.

I dont think the rad comes with screws but the thread type/size is common and can be easly found in a hardware store (I forget the thread type though lol)

also which case will you be using? Its not nessecary to mount it at the top, although it does make it alot easier to fill your loop. I dont see why you couldn't mount it on the bottom of your rad but again make sure you use as short of a screw as possible.
 
Screw threading is either 6/32 thread or M3.5 thread type. Length varies based on fans used.
 
Thanks a lot the both of you that was very helpful. I am using a Lian-Li v2000 and will be cutting the top with a hole saw. It just seems like that is the best place for it. Also I will be using 120mm Yate Loons (D12SH-12) for the Radiator
 
Yeah be careful with screw lengths - the holes don't go all the way through the rad. I busted a hole in my 2x120 Swiftech rad (it was my first time watercooling) b/c I didn't pay attention to that. I use 3 120x38mm Scythe Ultra Kaze fans on my MCR320 but I bought shorter screws and use the contacting screw hole on the fan only.
 
The Swiftech radiators generally come with screws for mounting to the fans/case. It's easy to miss them, as they are generally hiding in a couple of pieces of thin cardboard taped together to hold the screws - you might just think it is packing material.
 
That's a rather large rad for just cooling the CPU. Planning on cool more in the future?
 
with i7s, MCR320 maybe just enough to cool the CPU ;)

And why not go with the biggest rad you can afford/fit? your certainly not going to see a performance hit by going with the bigger one.
 
I plan on buying a GPU block in the future but just not quite yet. Would it be better to get a dual rad instead? I just remember reading somewhere here a while ago that a triple rad is best for a 6600.
 
no, if you plan on going GPU+ a quad you deffinatly want the tripple
 
Swiftech will have everything you need to mount the fans to the radiator.

I generally buy from these guys. They sell the hose barbs for pretty cheap.

I have a dual 120 rad and it cools my i7 920 just fine.:D

Also, just a suggestion, Swiftech makes a radiator with a reservoir, so you really don't need the micro-res at all. I use the dual 120 with the reservoir built in, and mount it outside the case on the back; I never have to worry about a reservoir.;)
 
Thanks for the responses. I considered the Res version but I have to mount it horizontally at the top of the case for it to work and the Res portion won't function that way according to the specs.

In that case get the new microres 2.0, it has fillports on the top and bottom and real metal nonplastic barbs.
 
I just got the RAD today, but i am a little concerned about the placement. I fits fine at the top (have not cut yet just from eyeballing it) but I am worried it will be pushing up against the sata and power wire connectors on the P5Q PRO. It seems like it is way too close to the motherboard and will be a pain to get everything fitted properly. Has anyone else came across this sort of thing? It seems like the inverted ATX has a lot to do with it but then again I dont have the precise measurements for the holes so I am just not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would buying a micro ATX resolve this (seems like a bad idea but idk)? I can post pictures if needed. To clarify, I have a Lian liv Black v2000 and CURRENTLY a Gigabyte 939 k8n triton. The power placement on the Gigabyte board is similar to the P5Q so this is why I am concerned. I am getting ready to buy the new computer and really need this info from experienced users. Please help me out if you can.
I would honestly like to order it right now so yeah :)
