My family just got a new dell that came with wondows XP. I am goign ot be doing my first comp build pretty soon so that I have a decent comp for games and to take to college. I was wondering if I could install the windows xp that came with the dell comp onto the new ocmp I build. The cd says only for dell computers, and I dont feel like spending 100 bucks to by windows xp since I am on a budget.

you could. The dell CDs dont require you enter in a CD key, but keep in mind, you'll piss microsoft off :D

Thanks for the two minute response :D get a life j/k

I have no problem pissing Microsoft or dell off I dont like either. Unless Bill Gates runs me over with his super SUV that has like 8 computers in it

Thanks a lot for the info.

If it requires activation, you're SOL. Microsoft will see that that copy is already registered and not issue you an activation key, and then you've just wasted 2 hours of your life.

SOL?

I assume it means screwed or something simlar right? lol

I make 5.15 an hour so wasting two hours of my life to try to save 100 bucks aint a bad deal to me :)

install it on the second comp, if you have to activate, you'll probably have to do the microsoft phone thing, call them up and tell them you upgraded your system and are reinstalling windows and they will give you a series of numbers and nobody will know the difference

problem hopefully solved and a few hundred bucks saved

you didnt hear this from me

No discussion of piracy... that would be against the rules folks...
