questions about water cooling...!

lets put it this way. i'm running all air cooling right now, and the case is blowing out hot air...making the surrounding area hotter. I'm thinking the hottest thing is the gpu. If i water cool...will the whole card be cooler? or just the core?
 
Tell me about it, I have 2 serious heaters in my small room. And a third box by my feet :D
Yes w/c will make the temps of your cpu and gpu lower. I just ordered the Swiftech Apex kit for my PD 830, it is probably the best and easiet kit out. I personally wanted a pre-built kit b/c this is my first step into w/c.

Water cooling typically affects the difference betwen your idle and load temps. Your heat producers still put out heat. It just is removed faster and in a more efficient way.

yeah i've been eyeing that kit. I've joined the groupbuy as well...but they don't even have a eta on when there will be more shipments. I hate my comp right now because it's so loud with all the fans and it's still so hot.

-3 120mm fans
-4 80mm fans
-zalman vf700-cu
-zalman 7700
-and the freaking chipset fan that is spinning at 7337rpms.

Temps. Idle/Load:
CPU 30/49c
PWM IC: 40/47c
Chipset: 44/52c
GPU: 59/82c

No, I will be getting it on Friday. It will surely be installed on Sat ;) I will be posting results, and considering a worklog.

The performance of the kit should be easy to read. It is up against some hefty competition with my PD 830 :) Which runs considerably warm.

What TN was referring to was that your room will still heat up as if you had air cooling, which is true. This is because the heat of your computer still gets moved into the room eventually.

What you are referring to, as I understand it however, is the case temperature. In this you are correct in your assumption. Watercooling your CPU and GPU will greatly reduce your internal case temperature (if you have the radiator external or so that the fans are exhausting). This is because the watercooling is taking out the two most significant heat sources from your computer. Their heat is now being dissipated away from the other components, which helps to lower temperatures.

i've been looking into the swiftech h20-apex. But i've been reading that a heatercore is the best.

Would there be a big difference between the apex radiator and the dd double heatercore?

i'm looking for a fairly quiet setup as well...which radiator would give the best db/temp ratio?

both would be about the same, but the heatercore would probably provide a bit better temps (I believe the heatercore actually has slightly more surface area than 2x120mm radiators like the one in the APEX or the BIP2)
 
The Swifty radiator has a surface area of 5" x 9.3" (46.5 sq in) and a Bonie (2.302) heater core has a surface area of 5.625" x 10.75" (60.475 sq in). The heater core is also much thicker and very un-restrictive air flow wise.................:)

and for the people that have the bonie...how quiet is it? i'm really wanting a almost quiet computer.

Try using smart guardian to slow down the chipset fan, my spins and 2000rpm, and although my chipset gets warm (55c @ 1.7v) id rather have it warm then my ears bleeding. doesnt affect stability at all.
 
They call it a Bonnie because it's made for a Pontiac BONNEVILLE. In this make year group there are 2 different cores (2-302 and 2-199), one with air and one without, I forget whit one is which................ :eek: From those measurements I'd say that one was a 2-199.

Put place a 120mm fan to blow over the chipset. That reduces the heat, fan speed and noise.

These temps are @ load. The only thing I need to work on is the pwm temp. In the afternoon pwm temps hit 52c which just annoys me as it shows up red :cool:
 
I'll second that with a 120mm fan cooling the area, it will keep things nice and cool.............. :D

:( My DFI chipset runs at 49C load. I really need to take it off and lap it and put it back on with some AS5 one of these days.
