We have some am3+ boards wanted to know if we could use any am3 processor, not am3+ and would it effect our litecoin mining in any sort of way?

You can mine on CPUs. You'll need to setup a proxy to connect to Stratum. Don't expect more than 20k/hashes though. If power is free... then go ahead. Otherwise, its not worth it to CPU mine just about any coins.

not worth it unless you are using a CPU only coin, and iirc there isn't many of those around these days, they keep getting ported over to GPU (Looking at you Quarkcoin)

hopefully you are asking about how powerful of a cpu do you need to GPU mine? if so, i am using a lowly core duo mobile cpu and itx board to host a 6950 that makes the same khash/s rate as any other 6950 unlocked i've seen elsewhere, so cpu won't matter too much as am3 chips will be faster than the 1.66ghz core duo mobile cpu i am using.

Your best bet is to mine FTC with CPU's, they do MUCH better with CPU's than most other coins and again have a good chance of becoming a popular crypto.

were mining with 4 gpus, just need a cpu in the rigs. My question was mainly if we could use a normal am3 processor in a am3+ board and if there was any negative effects if we did. Sorry for the confusion

You should be able to, I've put am3 chips in am3+ boards (black socket) and vice versa (white socket)

Look at PTS or XPM for CPu based mining. but AM3 should be fine in an AM3+ socket.

what board is it, do you know the model? you would want to make sure your motherboard supports the CPU on the manufacturer's webpage
