questions about possible dead hardware

ok, here's what happened. i was setting up my mythtv box, the power was off, and when i disconnected the cable tv connection from the capture card/mpeg encoder, i noticed small arc from the cable to the plug where i attach it to on the card. when i tried to turn the computer on again, the power supply and fans worked for a fraction of a second then quit. now, it won't respond at all, even with all non essential hardware disconnected. i can't smell the magic smoke smell anywhere.

is the wire within the cable tv cable dangerous enough to fry hardware? i've been mildly shocked from a cable before, and i've had capture cards before, and i've been less than exact plugging the cable into it, and i never had an arc occur.

the psu is an antec truepower 550, and it appears to have a 3 year warranty, so i can get it replaced if it's fried. but how can i test if it's the psu that has failed? which wires do i have to tie together to test the psu independently of the motherboard? thanks much.

well, i found out how to get the psu to work without the motherboard, and it works fine. which means, something else is fried. this sucks.

does anyone know if a cable tv wire can normally do serious damage? i've verified it as a valid tv signal, but i had no idea it could arc like that.

well, it's better than it could have been. it won't post with my soundcard and mpeg card in, so it's either one of those that are fried. i'd prefer it to be the sound card that is dead, though. so i guess if this thread means anything...:) be careful with cable tv connections.
