I would consider switching to Linux if there was a version I could run my Windows based programs and games in. I know absolutely zero...nothing about Linux.

So, my questions are...is there a version of Linux that will run Windows apps and games?

And secondly, which version is it...if there is one?

lots of games and apps will not run under linux,

those that will run have to use wine or cadega,

easiest distro to start with is kubuntu or ubuntu, 6.10 is the latest one
 
Thanks for the tips...someone had suggested either Fedora or Linspire Linux.

Also, I was told that CodeWeaver Cross Over Linux would run any Windows programs. Anyone know if that's true?
 
If you need to run windows programs then keep windows...

Yes Wine can run some windows programs but not very good, and most programs not at all. It is still under heavy development, and it doesnt work so good. As far as Cedega, and Crossover Office.... Wine has already passed them by. Wine will usually run things better then either of them, but as I said it is still FAR form done, and it doesnt work very well.

If you need to run Windows programs, then run Windows. If you want to check out Linux, then resize your windows partition, and install Linux to another partition on your harddrive.... Or better yet, Buy another harddrive, and a 5 1/4 inch removable harddrive bay, with a couple of removable cases, and keep Windows on one drive, and when you want to boot Linux, pull that drive out and insert your Linux drive, and boot to it.

Fedora is pretty easy to use and is the distro I have installed but as far as ease of use goes I think Ubuntu is probably the best.

You are going to have problems running games and apps that were developed for Windows under WINE in Linux. I'm not sure that WINE is the solution you think or want it to be. I would try dual boot or what duby229 suggested.

Thanks for the information...looks like I will be sticking with Windows then...got to many apps and games I need to use.
 
Crossover actually works pretty well. I've ran 4 or 5 windows apps with it. I ran it on Xandros by accident the first time and it set up and configured the drive mapping by itself.
Wine is not very noob friendly, but it's something to play with.
I personally hate windows, but I still dual boot for games mostly.

I'd say Xandros is easier than any other mentioned distro just because it does a lot of the work that the others don't automatically.
