Since my motherboard is being RMA to Newegg right now, I expect I have about 2 weeks to make some changes to my current system.

One thing I want to do is lag my processor since it is slightly convex. I figure I could improve temperatures 2-3C by doing this.

I am aware that I will lose my warranty, but I have an OEM chip, and the warranty expires in 5 months anyway...

What kind of sandpaper did you use to lap your computer chip?

A step-by-step procedure of what was done would be great.

You need 300 and 600 grit sandpaper, acetone, Q-tips and a piece of glass to lap it on....

To start, I do up and down motion and turning it 90 degress every 5-6 times till the IHS is all copper, I think this is the best procedure to make sure its evenly lapped..... Then I move to 600 grit and use figure 8 motion to give the surface a good finish.....

After I dip the Q tip in acetone and give it a good wipe and Im done...... The link above says 2000 grit but 600 is all thats needed but if you want to give your cpu a mirror shine then use finer grit after the 600...... good luck...
