I just bought a WD 36 Gb Raptor drive. Currently I have two IDE drives but will be replacing one with the Raptor and using the other(a 120Gb HD) more for storage. I have a Gigabyte K8NSPro mobo with onboard SATA connectors. what is the best setup? Do I need to use the RAID option? I have Norton Ghost so is it better to just burn the image from my old HD to the new one or re-install XP? This is my first "venture" into an SATA drive, so not sure exactly what I need to do. Any help is appreciated.
 
User the raptor as a single boot drive with a FRESH copy of winxp/2k whatever.

back up just data to ur 120 and leave it just for data.

Ur board probably needs the SATA controller driver to see the drive as well so make sure u have a floppy with the drivers ready.

Fresh copy so you dont have all that garbage that built up over the months or years of normal usage. I format every 2 months. Keeps your computer running fast and sexy :)

you can slipstream all the updates and drivers to your cd. programs you cant thoe. after you do that you can create and image of your whole pc with updates drivers and programs with ghost though. Put it on ur secondary HD and just reimage your raptor every month or so. Only thing is, I don't think ghost supports SATA. I know they didnt when I tried with ghost 8 or 9
 
Hope this doesn't sound too dumb, but what do you mean by "slipstream" my updates and such? And how difficult is it to do this?
BTW, just to let you know, I just did a fresh install on my old HD about 6 or 7 months ago cause my computer crashed and wiped it out. Is all this still recommended?
 
i would die if i waited that long, but thats me. 6-7 month is nothing for others.

did you check out the link i sent you? It shows you very easy to use.

Slipstreaming is putting all ur drivers and updates onto the windows OS so when you do a fresh install u got all the updates and drivers already there for you, no need to dl any unless its outdated. good stuff

Yeah, I went to the link. Didn't get a chance to look at the program though cause I'm at work. I'll check it out again when I get home. Thanks for the help.
