Questions about considering a Conroe...

I was all set to get an AMD X2 5000+ especially when I saw prices like this http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merc..._Code=M&Product_Code=80169&Category_Code=AMDC

But then I realized for just a little bit more I can get a next generation chip, the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600.

I had not looked into getting an Intel at all. What do I look for in getting a motherboard that supports the new Conroe? I was hoping to find one from Newegg, since Ill be building a computer and buying most of my parts from there.

Any reccomendations on a motherboard for it? I saw a couple from Gigabyte and Asus, although I know I have read on the forum here from a lot of people not to waste my time with Asus.

I was all set to purchase an AMD at the price drop and started buying just a couple partsk, like a ATI X1900XT, and a Hauppauge 500 TV Tuner card. Just trying to figure things out quickly so I can decide to preorder the Conroe or wait.

Do I have to look for any special memory? I was all set to get the Corsair XMS DDR2 800 memory for the AMD, will it also work for this?

I figure if I was going to buy the Conroe, it would be back ordered for awhile.

Anyone have any guesses as to when NewEgg will be carrying the Conroe chips? I was hoping to order all of my computer parts from the same place, although I am heavily considering preordering from www.shopblt.com.

I apologize for all of the questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

the memory is fine, there is no reason to get any AMD chip right now, chips will be available by the end of the month

any recommendations on where to order it from? i see a lot of people are preordering it from shopblt.com. will it get announced for sale on the official day the 23rd from most other places? im going to go for it as long as i can get it some time in august. i see conflicting reports on when people will actually be able to receive them with so many orders being placed

it will definitely be available all around the web by august no doubt.... so I honestly think any e-tailer by the end of the month will be fine. If possible, you might as well wait until August, when the price gouging because of suckers.... i mean "early adopters" isn't so bad.

As for a motherboard i'd recommend the Intel 965 chipset. The boards should be around $150 at launch. It is looking like a great chipset if you are not interested in Crossfire. If you are definitly go with the intel 975. As far as motherboard manufacturers, I like Asus.

I pre-ordered from ShopBLT and they are telling me August 4th for shipment. I am also going with the Corsair XMS DDR2-800 ram from newegg.

Good luck on your system,

Jeff

for the memory should I go for the Corsair XMS? I'm thinking maybe I don't need RAM thats that good, is it overkill? For Motherboard I'm still torn, thinking about the ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe, but not sure if I really need that much or want to spend that much.

If you can wait 2 months for motherboard revisions to be completed. Or plan on buying another board in a couple of months.
