Two days ago, I walked into my computer room and noticed my computer was on but not responding and a burnt wire smell. I turned it off and noticed that the HSF on the CPU was very hot.

I noticed that the burnt smell was coming from my power supply (Antec 300W). This is the second one that has gone bad in about a 1 month time period.

I removed the power supply and took it back to Circuit City and replaced it with an Antec 430W True Power. The machine boots but I noticed that 2 out of 3 fan connectors on the motherboard no longer worked. I can plug the HSF into the power supply with an adapter I have and it works fine. My temps are very poor. 50c idle.

Other than that, the machine appears to work fine but I will be purchasing a new motherboard soon (as soon as I get the money, which could be awhile due to bills).

My question is, should I continue to use the machine or let it sit there until I get a new motherboard.

My specs are below:

Asus A7S333
Athlon XP 2400 @ 2ghz
1024 gb ddr 266
ATI Radeon 9600 xt @ stock speeds (500/300)
Hercules PCI sound card (fortissmo 2)
40gb Western Digital 7200 rpm drive
32x ghetto cd rom drive

It does boot but I do not want to risk damaging any further components as money is tight.
 
50c idel!!! i run 30c case temp running photoshop lightwave and autocad at the same time with a cheap $40 case 2 fan air cooling and a 9800pro that runs a steady 120F
 
OMFG 20 Degres C belo burn out is soooo hawt ur tempx0rs sux0rs. I play solitare and burn cds on my 2x burner and pick my nose at the same time and only have a -10 degree F case temp you are running too hawt and are going to die!!!!!!!!!!!!111

The case temp is around 30c. The processor is what is running a little warm. I am afraid that this motherboard might be causing my issues and do not want to fry another power supply by running this machine too much.

Is it possible that this motherboard is frying my power supplies? I had the power supply plugged into a power strip with another computer. I am now using a different power strip for the second computer.

So should I go ahead and run the machine without worry that this power supply will die? I have had two die within a month's time but I have purchased a better one now (430w true power) and I am now using a different plug in.
 
im a worrier so I PERSONALLY wouldnt but most people would say its fine to do so which it probably is fine but i wouldnt... I think some circuitry is bad becuase your motherboard cant actually cause all those the way your thinking.... it has to be some bad wiring
 
Did you try a flux capasitor? Works great! 1.1 jigawatts of electricity!
