Uhhh... how about giving us a system to power? Or I could be an complete ass and tell you to just get the most expensive power supply you can find. Make sure it's one of those server power supplies that are redundant, that's as reliable as it gets.

This should give you enough power and be extremely reliable, don't you think?

jeez you guy's are ruff. I'm kinda new with alot of this stuff. I mostly been useing laptops since 95 I have started a build back in 2006 with an asus m2n32sli delux wirless addition it has a n force 590 chip set and is a am2 socket I baught this board to try to build a water cooling system. I also baught two swifttech water blocks kingston hyper x memory and coolance liquid cooler for the memory. installed those things. then I was waiting for amd to come out with a 4 core chip they were supose to be first to the market with them but they had a design flaw changed the socket and intel beet them to the market with there chips. I never got a power supply and it's never been used. I sold all the extra part that I also baught dvd rom's and card reader.
I wanted to do a mulitible monter display not for gaming but i'm not sure if I should even use this board or if I should start fresh. I hope that helps but I just wanted to reall know what was reliable power supply and best least expensive video card to use
 
Uhh... that tells us absolutely nothing. What power supply we recommend completely depends on the components you're going to use. For example, we are not going to recommend a 1200 watt power supply for a single HD6870, nor are we going to recommend a 650 watt power supply for two GTX 580's. So why don't you lay out for us what you have, what you want to do, and then maybe we can get started on recommendations. This might be the power supply subforum, but most of us here are knowledgeable enough about other system components as well to give you proper advice.

Multi-monitor display, but not for gaming? How many monitors are you planning on using?
What is the primary purpose of your computer?
 
Yeah.... it sounds like you need to go to the general hardware subforum and fill out the list of questions in the sticky.

Fill out those questions and someone will put together a build for you, using the best parts available on your budget.

Are anecdotal answers really that much use? I've in my life owned 4 PSU's, one a cheap generic type 250W running a coppermine system, that failed after 3 years, one a Dell 250W that is still functional now after 10 years, a 380W antec that failed after 3 years and a Corsair VX450 that is still working after 4 years of near 24/7 operation.

In reality there are only a few manufacturers most are re-branded, Seasonic built units are pretty rock solid.

Thanks that's the best answer I got so far I have mostly been useing lappy's only had two desk top's I have done a few upgrades but that's about it

How the heck did you come up with this? Try and run 2x GTX580's with a 650 and see what happens.

Mans got a point. They recommend a 600W for a single card system, and while you're not likely to see it often pull it's peak power or 244W (x2) it's just not worth the risk.

You're going to want something like 65A on the 12V lines which is more in 800W+ region
