My mother board has onboard ati video. im adding a gts250 would it be best to use the onboard for web browsing and setting up folding on the nvidia card. or just turn off the on board? and is trying to use both going to be a pain to setup?
 
you can probably use both just when you set up the gpu folding use a -gpu 1 flag so that it will fold on the gts 250 (i'm assuming the onboard will be gpu 0)
 
Last I knew ATI and NV drivers didn't like each other.

That may not be the case anymore however.

oh i didn't see the ati. I don't think it would be an issue if they're running win 7. Anyone else try this?

your right i found that out after the reboot installing the nvidia drivers. using a standard drivers without the catalist control center im pretty sure would work. running xp thanks for the help fella's
 
Not sure if you can split tasks between an onboard video setup vs PCI video setup. Interesting question though. I'd be very interested as well if this can be done.
 
Usually any board that has onboard video will disable it in the presence of a plugged in dedicated video card (AGP or PCIe or hell even PCI). I don't know if you can force enable the onboard, but yeah you're probably going to have problems by having both companies' drivers set up on that system, so if I were you I would just disable the onboard and leave it alone....not really worth it. You can still use the card while folding for practically anything, let alone something as simple as 2d surfing/email and desktop use. ;)
 
In the bios you can tell it which card to run the monitor. telling it to run pci-e turns it off. telling it to run onboard lets you see both. soo if i had 3 monitors i could use them all.

I had a GTS250 on my 780g board and it worked fine.

When you do the ATI drivers, dont install the full catalyst suite, just the driver.
 
If you're using XP or Windows 7, you'll be fine. If you're running Vista, it won't work.

You can use both, but not for folding purposes. Its one or the other when it comes to folding. But you can use one as primary display (even games) and another for folding.

I am trying this at my home now too, I have onboard ATI radeon video and a 9600 GSO and it seems to work fine for me so far, havent been able to push a WU with the 9600 GSO yet (meaning I havent finished one yet). But they work in sync okay, and YES onboard takes gpu0 and cards after take gpu1

When you make a shortcut to run F@H, you have to add the -gpu x (where x is the number of the GPU the client is meant to run on) flag to the end of the Target box if you have more than one GPU in the system.
 
Would it help get anymore ppd my web browsing hasnt slow the gpu down but a few hundred ppd
 
The -gpu x flag doesn't affect your PPD. All it does is specify which GPU the client runs on, which is a requirement for folding in a system with multiple GPUs. If you didn't use it, all the clients would run on the same GPU, or if you have two GPUs and you only want to fold on one of them (which is your situation), you will want to specify which GPU the client should run on.
