I've never done this before so i'm alittle ignorant when it comes to it

I have a 320gb single hdd in my pc with 2 partitions. c and d.

I bought a 640gb hdd and would like to do a 1:1 copy of my existing hdd. What is the easiest to do so without losing data integrity?

Also, if i plug in my 640gb hdd now windows creates a different drive directory and when i remove the old one and it tries to boot from the new one..it fails because its no longer a C:\ drive.

Any help is appreciated.

Disk cloning software . I've used Acronis True Image successfully many times. There are some freeware cloning softwares out there too.

Acronis True Image Home does exactly what you're talking about. It can make 1:1 image copies (something that Windows Drag-and-Drop fails at) and lets you copy over your entire 320GB drive to your new drive during a restart cycle (doesn't do it in Windows, so you know you won't have any copying issues). After you're done, you can remove your old hard drive, and pop in your new one and voila, you're on your new hard drive. :)

You can then format/sell/break your old hard drive at will afterwards. :D
