I'm currently running ..

GIGABYTE GA-945GZM-S2
e4300 1.8GHZ @ 2.4 (highest mobo will allow)
2 GB of kingston ddr2 667
1 EVGA 8800GT SC

I'm wanting to build a new rig next year with much higher end components, but for now want to build a temporary upgrade computer that I can give to the GF once I'm ready to build the main rig.

I want to be able to max out COD4 at 1680x1050 (dell 2405FPW LCD) Currently I cannot as the FPS dips below 30 a good bit at that res. Would upgrading to say..

e??? / q??? (not sure what to get)
same ram / HDD


allow me to do this? or is it the 8800GT that isn't strong enough to run max settings at that res?
 
8800gt should be able to handle it no probs. even with an older processor.

maybe you need a clean install of drivers for the card. if you don't do it right it can cripple your system.
 
doesnt seem like your cpu would be the bottleneck here. if you do pick something up, just go with a cheap dual-core you can OC to maybe 3.0ghz or so. no use going all out for your gf, assuming she's just a casual user and not much of a gamer herself
