Hey i have a question, what happens when you put an incorrect voltage charger in a laptop. Here's the story to it, i just bought this barebones laptop with no HD, ram or PS.I slipped in my charger for my old thinkpad(16V), I just wanted to see if the laptop lighted up to give me a sign of some working condition. The correct PS(19V) should be here tomorrow. Also when i turned it on it gave me a white screen and nothing whatsoever else. Is there something wrong with that or is that normal because of missing 3 volts. Thanks

Normally the only time you should be worried is if you are putting a higher voltage into the machine that what is allowed. By doing that you can fry the power converter inside the laptop. However, you were putting a lower voltage power brick into the laptop so more than likely the white screen was nothing more than the machine not quite having enough power to fully boot to the bios. Best bet is to wait until tomorrow when you get the correct power brick, that will be the true test to see what, if anything, it did.

Yeah, exactly as gregnash said. Just make sure you never connect a higher-voltage adapter to an electronic device, as that will almost certainly fry the power circuitry.

A lower voltage power supply isn't always any better. If you don't put enough power into some devices they try to draw that power in other ways. That results in increased current demands.
WHen the current goes up you can "fry" certain parts of the equipment as well.

just an fyi
