question regarding recording

i do some singing/rap recordings on my pc for my friends.
i have been using the onboard soundstorm, and it has been doing ok, but i wanna up the quality the cheapest way possible.
my recent discovery was that soundstorm was only during digital out, so im guessing the recording is done by the realtek codec since its using 1/8" stereo holes?

i have an extra philips dynamic edge PSC604 4.1 soundcard. would this have a much better recording quality over my onboard?
