Question regarding RAID and HD RPMs

I picked up a new motherboard with an onboard RAID controller that I plan to run basic RAID-1 with. (IDE)

The current hard drive in my machine is a 5400RPM Maxtor, 60GB. If I pick up a 7200 RPM drive to use as my primary drive, and use the slower drive for the mirror, would I run into write issues?

I realize it's probably a better idea to upgrade both to (edit) 7200, but right not it's not in the budget.

Thanks in advance.

If your going to upgrade both, your better off going 7200 rpm, or higher (see sig).

I wouldn't trust a RAID array with two different speed drives. In fact I wouldn't even think of doing it. Get 2 matching drives, and then try it.

Hey, I should have googled.

This is my current drive. (OEM)

Since it's old, I plan to use it as the mirror and the new one for the primary.

2MB 7200RPM IDE should work, correct? (I'm not sure what the difference is between ATA and UATA)

Thanks again.

Gah, sorry for posting this in the wrong forum initially. My eyes wanted to look for "Hard Drives".

i would only use two identical drives with Raid. Im not even sure if it would allow you to raid 1 a 7200 and a 5400.

i would suggest getting two 7200's if you insist on having raid.
