Question regarding pci-e slot speeds

Ok I have an older Tyan mobo that has dual 940 sockets. Now it also has two pci-e x16 slots, one slot is electrically x16 the other is only x4. So my question, would that x4 slot be enough to support a dual gpu card say a 9800gx2 or a gtx295?

welp since the gtx 295 was a complete flop for its price range thats out of the question.. as for the 9800GX2 it might be.. though id say any single gpu card should work perfectly fine.. but i dont really think the actual slot speed matters since its not having to compute data outside of the actual gfx card.. but ill wait to see if anyone corrects me..

A 4X slot provides sufficient GPU bandwidth for folding purposes.

Tiger and myself both have 9800GX2 cards in 4X slots and they are running ust fine.

You start having problems at 2X.

id wait a little while on the gtx 295's.. the fact that its basicly equal to the 4870x2's going to mean that nvidia's going to have to drop the price of the gtx 295 to equal the 4870x2 in my opinion.. should probably see it drop to the low 400's after about a month.. heck might even drop lower then that.. but who knows.. im sure nvidia will rely on its reputation to keep the price hiked.. but if they want to stay competitive their going to have to drop the price.. to much hype for a repeat performance.. can anyone say 9 series dejavu?
