Question regarding dual PSU

I would like to ask if anyone here is running on a dual PSU ( highend system ) for everyday use.. say something like having the primary PSU on the motherboard and drives and the secondary PSU on the VGA alone ( example 8800GTX SLi ) would there be any safety issues on this type of setup ?

How about power regulation on the VGA's would there be any issue on that since the PSU for the VGA isnt connected on the motherboard.. as ive been told by some that its not a good idea since the motherboard cant regulate the power that flows thru the card ( which doesnt make sense to me )

And about voltage/amp fluctuations, anything i need to be informed of ?

I apologize for shifting the subject away for a moment, but I have always wondered the same thing. I wanna have dual psu's but could use a little advice on how actually rig them together. Do they make a special connector?

I am running dual 700watt zippys at the moment, the 2nd supply is running all my fans, my 2 hard drives, a floppy an an optical, and so far, so good.

Ive been told by some other people that its not a good idea use the PSU thats not connected directly to the motherboard to power the VGA cards, is there any truth in this ? as i fail to see the logic in it since power draw and regulation is done by the VGA card not the motherboard.
