Question regarding Crossfire

Does anyone know if you can run crossfire with mismatched models of cards?

Example:
I currently have an ATI 4670 and want to buy an ATI 4870. Can these both be crossfired together or do I need matching models similar to Nvidia?
 
It might work, but you would only get the speed of a set of crossfired 4670's I believe.
 
Aw, so it downgrades to the slowest card? lame.

Do you know if you can run one as the video card and other as a physx processor?

ATI cards don't support PhysX.

Though you could have the card in as a regular secondary card and probably still perform some GPGPU tasks with it like Folding@Home, etc.
 
I thought there were some hacked drivers out there where they brought physx to the ATI cards.

In Vista you can only have one Display driver at a time (meaning ATI +Nvidia card in the same system is a no go). It is possible to work around this, but it involves forcing vista to use XP drivers, and giving up DirectX10, Aero, etc. Anyone that gives up DX10 for PhysX is an idiot.

If you are really dieing for PhysX, you can get a regular PPU that goes in a PCI or PCIe 1x slot. They work fine with Nvidia or ATI GPU's.

Haha, thx. i'm not dying for it... Just didn't want my 4670 card to go to waste.
