First of all, I'm a total newbie when it comes to the Conroe processor.
2 weeks ago I didn't even know what it really was, but as more and more people were talking about it, I felt like I had to get a look at some previews and benchmarks.
And I gotta say I was pretty impressed at the performance of the 6700 Core 2 Duo CPU when it was opposed to a Athlon64 FX-62, especially in video games!
But to be honest, my little brain doesn't understand how can a dual core processor beat the FX-62 in a game like FEAR or Half-Life 2. In my mind a game like any other software needs to be hyper threaded to take advantage of a dual core CPU, but all these benchmarks out there seem to be proving me wrong. In fact, how come an Athlon64 X2 4800+ doesn't take advantage of its structure in single threaded applications, while the Conroe does?????
Can you please explain it to me?
