Question regarding Asus 4870

that's the PCIe power plug from the power supply make sure yours have those connectors then you won't have to use them..if your power supply is over 500W it should have 2 of those connectors for you already and you have to plug in both or the card might not even run.. i'm waiting for the same card.. hope it's good
 
You need both. They probably assume that almost everyone these days has at least one available. Probably time for a power supply upgrade if you don't have any.
