Can a wireless-G adapter pick up Wireless-b signals?

I just got the 3715-EH1 version of this notebook ...
http://www.averatec.com/notebooks/3700series.htm
...and it comes with a wireless-g adapter. On the website it is listed as a "Wireless-G/B"
adapter, suggesting it picks up both signals.
Everest Home Edition lists it as only a Wireless-G adapter and so does every other program and hardware listing on the computer.

I can see the wireless-b signals at my cousin's house with "wINC" but I cannot connect to it.
Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Please advise...

Thanks in advance.

i thought you could connect using a G adapter to a B router or maybe its the other way around B to G, but i know some routers have an option for Mixed mode, G only, B only

G is backwards compatible to B speeds and utilizes the same frequencies.

IOW: A Wireless-G adapter will allow you to connect to a 802.11B access point but will do so at 11Mbps instead of 54.

Okay, thank you.
