ive been looking around, and i saw that DFI board. but it says socket 479. And the pentium M says socket 478. are these 2 compatible?

Both Pentium-M and P4/P4-M have 478 pins, but one of the pins is keyed differently.

Of course that DFI P-M board is compatible with the P-M. :p

ok thank you.

As I understand, the extra "pin" is more of an identifying mark to distinguish the Micro-FCBGA packaging (478-pin) from the Micro-FCPGA packaging (479-pin).

The BGA packaging is the cpu that's soldered onto the motherboard, right?
