I have an Abit IP35-Pro board (1 x PCI-E X16, 1 x PCI-E X16 (x4 bandwidth)) and currently running a 8800GTS 512mb (core-708, mem-1072). It's having some issues with WoW. There are known issues with the 88xx series atm. It's to the point it's unplayable at certain times. I've tried different drivers, cleaning drivers, specifically setting the AA/AF (now have them disabled) to run at 1920x1200.

What I was thinking of doing was moving the 8800GTS to the 1 x PCI-E x16 (x4 bandwidth) for folding and dropping in a ATi 4850 512mb that my buddy has for $100.

Would I still be able to fold on the 8800GTS and game on the 4850?
 
You cannot mix ATI and nVidia cards and expect it to work correctly due to two sets of drivers needed.
Its not possible at all under Vista as it will only load one set of display drivers.
It is possible to get both cards working under XP but then what happens is the ATI client will sometimes grab nVidia work units and send bad data to Stanford, the nVidia client also can get ATI work units and again sends bad data back.

Just stick to one type of card per boxen and you'll be ok.

The 4850 might now be the best card to fold with ATM, however, the Big WU are on the way (once they can hammer out some problems) Then the 4850 should shine.

Not to mention it should do much better in games.
 
Duh, thanks for the info Tiger.... should have known that, didn't even think of it.

Looking at the 4850 ($120+mir) vs 4870 ($190+mir) vs GTX 260 ($220+mir). More for gameplay.
