question on GPU block. mixing company backplate+block?

friend wants to use a XSPC waterblock on his 290 because of the LED but loves the looks of the heatkiller backplate... can these be mixed and matched? im assuming so because the only important thing is GPU screw holes.
 
Shouldn't be an issue. The holes are going to line up regardless, AFAIK no back plate is block specific.
