question on a locked 3000+ XP Proc

Guys,

I would like to at the maximum, get this to 3200 speeds.

I have just a very basic understanding of OClocking. I did purchase new Ram and a new MB so that I would have a better chance at getting it done.

So with my hardware in my sig, where would someone start to get it to 3200 speeds?

Right now it is completely stock speeds, and my ram is probably slower than it is rated for as well.

I am at a 166 mhz bus speed. I have not changed the multiplier or anything. I would like to get to 200 mhz FSB.
Any suggestions are very helpful.

if htat thing is locked, you have little to no chance of getting it to 200fsb. 2.6ghz (that 3000+ has a 13 multi) with a desktop chip on aircooling is pretty much unheard of. just take the fsb up as far as it is stable, i guess

the 3000+ in my sig is an early model, its unlocked, and that is how i can acheive 2.4 with a 200 bus speed

Thanks for the reply.

This is what I did. I set the FSB to 200, and the Multiplier to 10 for starters. And it simply will not even post. Is this because my 3000+ is locked?

Can I increase the FSB at all in this situation?

Maybe on a different note, but can I simply raise the speed of my memory only? I have PC3500, but CPUZ says it is at 166 like the FSB..
 
Is that an nforce2 chipset? If it is, dont run async, they dont like it at all and your performance will be terrible. When did you buy your 3000+? If its locked, then yes, you wont be able to boot at 200 x 10. Try 175 x13 and move it up from there, using a bit more volts on your CPU as needed. Sadly, your memory will be wasted as like lithium said you wont get to 200FSB or above. You could always look for an unlocked CPU on ebay or in the buy/sell forum here and goto town on the FSB :D
 
you COULD raise the speed of ram....it wouldnt do much though....and they also make XP 3000+ WITH a fsb of 200....and i tihnk if its locked your screwed.....that and AMD has more performance from tighter timings...so yer pc3500 ram isnt NEARLY as good as if you would have bought pc 3200 corsiar LL or the like....im pretty sure pc3500 has loose timings....

yeah its locked. if it wont boot at 200x10, which is below its rated speed, theres no way it ISNT locked. i can get about 2.4 out of my 3000+ stable with some more volts pumped into it. you could google for a wire mod or bridge mod, but since you are new to this stuff i wouldnt recommend it. just take the FSB as high as you can take it without sacraficing stability, and run with it. its a speedy chip as is

Well, I did figure that. I have my memory at 2-2-2-5. Or is it the other way around?

I raised my FSB to 168 from 166. It detects my CPU as a 3200+ and it is running at 2195 GHZ.

Is that a bit higher than spec?

htats odd that it rocognizes it as a 3200, normally they recognize by the multi and the core...oh well, thats not important. by raising your FSB you are running out of spec, i mean, that is what overclocking is. spec on the 3000+ with 333fsb is 2.17 ghz, and every time you raise the fsb 1mhz, you are raising the proc's speed 13 mhz(1x13) if you start getting unstable while raising these clock speeds, increase your Vcore, and make sure you have good cooling

As a quick update, I am up to 175X13.

Everything seems great. Is there one particular program you would suggest for stability testing?

Well, actually. I cant seem to go above 170X13, or my machine reboots on its own. I may just need to get an unlocked CPU. :-(
 
prime95 is a stablility test, you can google it and find it. also, when you are taking up that fsb speed, loosen those memory timings a bit, that can cause instablility.. and 2-2-2-5 is pretty damn tight

yeah, but when you run it at speeds lower than that of which its rated, you can tighten the timings up.
