ok, my friend asked me for a spare harddrive, he doesnt care what kind as long as it works

so i looked over what i had and chose two possible harddrives i can give him

i need you guys to help me choose which one i should keep in the following terms:
1- higher value (in terms of money)
2- lower temps
3- better quality
4- anything else

the following drives are:
1) Western Digital Caviar 36400
13328cyl
15heads
63spt
6448.6mb
5vdc= 0.58A
12vdc= 0.23A
made in singapor
serial number WT420

2) Fujitsu
made in Thailand
MPC3064AT
serial number 01126388
5vdc 0.62A
12vdc 0.32A
6.48gb

i copied these info off the labels on the drive

keep in mind im not familiar with a buncha these technical terms so i look to you guys for help :D

please help.. i dont need you guys to go do any research, just look at these specs and tell me in your opinions, which one is better and why

The model numbers are really all you need. What's printed on the labels about cylinders, heads, etc., isn't particularly relevant in systems less than 6 years old. All the data you really want is available on the manufacturer websites and is accessable with the model number. Your Western Disaster is spec'ed out here, and the Fujitsu over here. Both are from the same generation of 5400rpm units and, unsurprisingly, perform almost identically. The biggest difference between the two units is in MTBF, but that number is so full of crap there's no real point paying attention to it. If you look closely you'll see that the Fujitsu has slightly faster rated speeds (buffer to media) and has a lower spinup time. It also consumes ever so slightly more electricity. Big whoop. Given the age of the units and performance characteristics, I'd say 51/49 for giving him the WD. Got a coin to toss?

ahh, ok... well, i just wanted something to say something to me about a choice whether it be bad or not so i wont have regrets thinking i gave away a better drive even if its not better... feels good to have a lil bit of support

Every drive manufacturer has had a fiasco at some point, only the ones with already-low expectations survive them.

MTBF = mean time between failure. It's supposed to be an estimate of drive reliability, but it doesn't work very well as one. Better MTBF FAQ
