I have a gigabyte k8ns pro. I am runnign the network adapater a marvell yukon. I also noticed that a 1394 adapter is running as well. I am experiencing lag in a game and i am wondering if i should disable the 1394 in my bios or will this cause conflicts with anything else

1394 is your FireWire interface. It is not an NIC.. more like USB.
You can disable it if you want... unless you have something that uses Firewire like an iPod. What are you system specs? Is this lag in every game you play? Every server? Could be many things..

ok... .the lag only shows up on this one game and i have all the updated drivers however could it be that my ati drivers for catalyst be too new for the game they reccomend v4.5 and i have v4.7 this is the only thing i can think of

You can disable the 1394 network interface ... it won't even interfere with any firewire device you have ...

umm to help we need to know what game, what net connection do u have, do u use a router/firewall, what vid card, is it graphics lag or net lag? come on....these threads waste my time

Apparently our secret got out.....noobs know we can solve problems by ESP....that we don't need any relevent system specs.

Okay, back to reality. If you can't at least take the time to post your system specs and all the other info we need, how exactly are we supposed to even guess at what the problem might be? What type of lag, what game, what OS, what hardware specs, etc etc etc.

oh im sorry i wasnt aware of everything all you l33t people needed. All you had to do is simply state that without sounding so damn condescending. Anyway if you are all to busy to help someone out then dont post a stupid reply just leave it alone. Anyway for any of you who wouldnt mind helping here is some more information for you see if that helps:

Win Xp
Gigabyte k8ns pro Mb
1 gig ram
ati x800
sb audigy 2 gamer

The game is City of Heros

It is a network lag and only happens on certain servers. I have run ping plotter and that found nothing. I have installed a new versions of my drivers for every componet on the computer. I have created a new character on a different server and it ran fine. I have also contacted tech support for the game and found that all there servers are running fine.

I run a dsl connection and it runs fine with all other internet connections. Now if anyone can help me please let me know if not. Don't post a stupid remark it makes you sound like an ass.

Thanks if you can help and if you cant thanks for trying

Firstly, thanks for calling us l33t :).
Secondly, you can't expect a problem to be solved without providing details. Simple as that.
Finally, it seems as though the problem exists on the servers you are running off or the network card. I see no problem with hardware or drivers, although I might suggest updated drivers for the network card or onboard. Maybe new mobo drivers needed, maybe they are incompatable with the game or the servers.
Hope this helps (hopefully not too condescending for your liking).

I did state it..

I assume it is like ping spikes, chokes, loss?
If it only happens on certain servers.. don't ya think that it might be your route to that server? Try running ' tracert xx.xxx.xx.xx' [where xxx.... is the IP of the problem server] in cmd window a few times.

If it isn't happening all the time, on all servers, in the same game, it isn't a computer problem.. it is internet path problem the way I see it.

It would happen to me at time playing CS, DoD, CoD on certain servers.

<> never heard of drivers being incompatible with certain servers  . It is not the computer..

no not condescending at all :) thanks for the help i am running into a wall here.... i have already updated the onboard lan, and the game worked fine a few days ago just recently after a fresh installation. and what i cannot understand is why it only happens on the one server and not the ohter 10 servers. This is not a localized problem.. However is it possible that it is my isp provider that is having trouble.. and if that is the case why is it not having trouble on any other servers

Paragon hit the nail on the head... it may be the path the data takes to the server. The other servers may be closer. You can use an Internet trace program (you can find them as shareware I think) in order to see where the data is going to and coming from.

BTW Paragon: Sorry, my sentence structure sucks. I didn't mean the drivers (i don't think  ), it just came out that way. ;)

It happens. ;)

Anyhoo.. there are also internet bases, java programs that can trace for you. One I found required to sign up.. but I just canceled the news emails. http://visualroute.visualware.com/

Have you noticed that you are in an area with a large number of heros when it happens? I don't play the game, but I think I heard something about this same issue, and I believe I heard it was video card related. Don't know much other than that though, sorry.

First, offending the people you are asking for help by calling the "l33t" and "condesending" isn't going to attract people who WILL help. I don't care what your excuse is... You get an exception from me, this is your first time.

Flame me if you want for saying that, but it's true. I have seen many people 'ignored' because of this attitude you have, and trust me it's there... There is even a thread about how to ask help from people 'like us'. You are breaking several 'rules' to get help.

Second, you problem is defined by your description. It's only certian servers, therefore the problem is server related, nothing you can do. It's the servers being overloaded/misconfigured. Outside of compaining to the servers ops. (city of heros ops.) there is little recourse.

Third, there is possibly some VERY odd issue that genenrates high ping times to these servers. Again, VERY unlikely.

EDIT: then again, this could be 'video lag,' which is low framerate, not high ping. One simple way to test this is, click on an area you want to move to. If it takes a second to start to move there, it's server lag. If you start to move immediatly, but very slowly, its liekly video lag, IE your system is too 'slow' to process everything. This may be remedied by lowering your resolution or lowering your detail setttins in the game.

Sorry for typos, I'm a little drunk. ;)
