Guys, these are the basic specs of my machine.

It is an I7 2600K running stock currently.
I have a Gigabyte 780 video card.

I have been debating on upgrading my machine either with the latest video card when Nvidia releases it, or upgrade my Motherboard\CPU instead.

Or just stay where I am at. It can do what I want it to do, I mainly game on it. I do have a new 32" monitor (Benq 3200), so it runs at a nice and high res.

Do I do anything, or leave it? What would you guys do?

If all you do is play games with your computer, your best upgrade will be the gpu. 2600ks are still fantastic cpus, especially if overclocked.

Does your motherboard allow overclocking? (z68 or z77? If so, I'd think that you shoudl make sure you have sufficient cooling, and then overclocking your CPU (my 2600k will do 4.3-4.4GHz without increasing voltage) Your current GPU should be pretty solid for 2560x1440... it will be a few more days before you'll know if a 970/980 will be a worthwhile upgrade.

My main desktop machine, which is a z68 board with a 2600k and a r9 290x... I doubt I upgrade that for a long time.

Its hard to recommend an upgrade from an 2600k.. there really isnt anything to upgrade to. At best sidegrades...

Just oc it

Very true. Though, unfortunately, it says more about Intel's inability to innovate due to lack of competition in the industry.

Sure miss those good ol' Athlon 64 days...

I swear both AMD and ATi were better when they were separate companies lol

I just OC'd my 2600K to 4.6 GHZ. I hope that will keep me for awhile. I guess maybe I dont need to upgrade anything. Sigh. :(

Lol, nope. At 4.6, you are set for a while gaming wise. The only noticeable upgrades for your purposes would be an ssd (if you don't already have one) and more horsepower on the gpu, if needed.
