Hi all,
I just popped in a new Phenom II X6 1100T into a motherboard I just got (from another forum poster :)). The mobo is an Asus Crosshair 890FX. Well this is my first ever high-end mobo and here's my concern... When I started up the computer with the new chip I went through the BIOS to recongnize the new CPU and I selected the "Auto" mode for overclocking. When I restarted the computer I see the CPU running at 3.84GHz. My questions are:
1. Is this chip okay running @ .54 over stock?
2. Can I trust the BIOS or should I throttle it back?
The CPU is currently running at 38C under no load. I'm using an H70 liquid cooler. Up until now I have never overclocked since I can't afford to blow things up.
Thanks for any help, adice, or wisdom you can share.
Marty

What is the voltage its running at?
Also- 38C at idle is not bad at all. I idle between 35-40C all the time with my i5-750 OCed. What you want to watch is load temps. what kind of load temps have you seen?

I have a 1090T with an ASUS mb that "auto" overclocked the chip to 39xx ghz and the voltage is 1.440. I'm using an H50 for cooling with a push/pull set up with CM blademaster fans and my idle temps are 30-35c and load temps are 45-50c. I've been running it like this since march of this year with no issues.

Just make sure your load temps arent high and you should be all set. You have a top of the line MB so you should be all set with those clocks/voltages. I think ASUS did a good job with the auto clock and turbo v features on their boards

The "Auto" setting tends to be a bit conservative. You could probably run that same speed with a voltage that's 0.1v lower and still be stable.

I seriously doubt you'll run into any issues with those settings. The motherboard and CPU are very robust and can handle a lot more than what you're putting into it.

unlocked processors are super easy to overclock, you don't need to do the auto settings. You should be able to run it at 3.7 on stock voltage, make sure you switch off turbo mode in the bios.

Thanks for the quick replies. Here are the answers to your questions/comments:

1. The voltage is @ 1.4480v
2. The temps at load were 44c. I played Civ 5 for an hour with everything set to max.

1. I also use the "push/pull" fan setup with the H70. I have the CPU and chasis fan headers set to "silent." While playing Civ 5 I played with the fan speeds and the CPU temp stayed right @ 44c. I'm using Thermalright (TR-FDB-12-2000) fans. The case is an NZXT M59 and I added a couple of extra fans.

Thanks again for the input. I don't have "Turbo" turned on is the BIOS, just "Auto Overclocking." It seems from your answers that I should be good to go.

Thanks again, ya'll rock! ;)

this is differnt, the THuban's idle temps are borked, only the load temps can be some what trusted

those volts are safe., load your processor with Prime 95, or something to push it harder, that way you can see what load is

as for overclocking, using the auto OC feature as mentioned typically will over volt a bit to be safe, you can always just go in and tinker with it on your own....plenty of good guides out there, the one here for Phenom's (1st gen) that is stickied is great and is the same process
