Bleah i know this is going to be simple. but how do i exit graphical mode and quit X?
I've tried "init 3" but it doesnt seem to work. I'm using Knoppix 3.3.

ctrl-alt-backspace will kill X.
Also, log out on the kde menu should work.
(You'll have to boot knoppix with some option to not shutdown when you kill X, btw.)
 
Why is it you want to kill X? You can do everything from the an X terminal that you can from a text terminal and if you really want to get to a text terminal, you can do it without killing X.
