Im finally buying a Scythe Ninja tomorrow. What 120mm fan do you guys recommend for it? Noise is really not a issue. Looking for the best 120mm fan the Scythe Ninja could benefit from.

Also it has to be from Newegg.

use the stock one?

Yeah I was thinking that. I should of worded it, would you guys recommend a different 120mm fan for it, or is the stock one good enough.

The one that comes with it is very good. I tried using one that had more CFM but was noisier and it didn't seem to make much, if any, difference at all. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the fan used doesn't make much difference because the idea is just to get some air blowing over and through the fins, the amount of air that is blowing through isn't as important as just getting some circulation through them. After stepping up to a
~60 CFM fan from the 47 CFM that comes with it, I didn't notice any difference at all so I found this claim to be true.

Enjoy your Ninja :)

The one that comes with it makes a little buzzing noise. A yate loon or something might be better.

You're right. If you're not worried about noise like you said, this is no problem. However, I have an old Vantec Stealth, a Yate Loon, and the Scythe fan and the Scythe was somewhere between the two, a little quieter than the Stealth but not as quiet as the Yate Loon. If it weren't for the slight buzzing noise that you can hear about a foot away from it, there wouldn't be MUCH of a difference between the Yate Loon and the Scythe fan.

most definitely a yate loon!

The stock fan is excellent, I installed mine a couple weeks ago:

Did they just start offering a fan with it? I got a Ninja months ago and it didn't come with one, lol.

do any of you guys get more than 50c on load?

I do! Usually about 51-52C load. Working on doing a decent wiring job here and cutting out some fan grills to alleviate this. Using the Ninja Plus with fan that was included. And you?

im hitting around 52-53c on load with an opteron 165 at 2.8ghz with stock voltage and the scythe ninja with AS5. outside temp is usually low to high 80s at this time of the year and i dont use air conditioning so i think that might have something to do with it

Well, you're doing better than me then. My temps OUTSIDE are in the high 80's but in my house are usually low 70's. I'm running a 3500+ at stock voltage with AS5 to get these temps. But like I said, I'm hoping a little re-wiring job will do the trick to bring it into the upper 40's load.

I get 53-55 load with my Opty 165 @ 2.4 ghz. of course, that's inside my desk pedestal with the door closed so I don't run it like that very often. With the door open, but still pretty lousy exhaust it's around 48-50, and on top of the desk it's <45.

i've always kept my comp on the ground and the temps are the same with the door opened or closed. what are your ambient temps?

my temps outside will be climbing up higher as summer goes on..low 70s is quite good. i think the re-wiring should help you get some better airflow.

I've been waiting on another thread to find out about the whole rewiring thing, but maybe you can answer my question...

I was thinking about getting a nibbler to cut out my entire intake and exhuast fan grills and then replace them with wire grills to allow better airflow. Should I have a filter on my intake? If so, can you recommend one that would work well and allow good airflow? (If it didn't allow better airflow than what I have, it would totally defeat the purpose!)

I'm using 120mm fans...

Newegg lists the Db rating of all of their fans. I would go with the most quiet one. Passive is fine for the Scythe for regular speeds, but if you overclock, you just need a little air going through there.

I don't have a fan on mine at all.

Then again, in the P180, you've got a 120mm fan directly behind it and another 120mm fan directly above it. They're definitely moving air over/through the ninja.
