Just wondering: When you run folding at home, do you load up your GUI or do you run it from command line? Is there a performance benefit if you DONT load KDE or Gnome and just run folding@home from command line?

most of my linux boxes don't have the gui installed that fold so to answer your question i can only tell you what use and that is command so i guess that isn't much help

I've got KDE running on the box that I'm running linux on while Folding is going. Folding completes frames in comparable times to another system I have running WinXP. Both have XP 2400+ cpus clocked at stock speed.

Haven't done a comparison between with and without KDE though.

Fold On!

No noticeable difference I've ever seen, unless the gui is loaded and I'm actively using it.
