Well I've been considering getting the X1800XT or the 7900GT and I've been leaning towards the X1800XT. But most people are saying that the X1800XT runs really hot, and I was wondering how worried I should be about heat using the stock cooling?
 
well if you have the money to buy those card how about picking up a new hsf for it
but i havent read anything about it beaing to much of a problem
and are you gonna be overclocking?
 
No I probably won't overclock. The reason i'm a little worried is because I haven't ever taken off a stock cooler and put on another one before. I don't want to mess up the card, even though I'm thinking of getting newegg's one year warranty since I heard sapphire isn't too great. Would newegg let me return it for a new one if I messed it up while adding on a new fan/heatsink?
 
It's not hard to do. You probably won't mess up the card.
And if somehow you do;
1) Put the stock HS&F on
2) Make it look legit
3) Say it didn't work when you got it
4)
5) Profit
 
its pretty dam hard to mess it up i mean i think its only 2 screws you unscrew....
and it comes right off
i mean if you can change batteries in a remote you can change a hsf

As far as a new GPU heatsink goes I would go with the Zalman vf-700
 
or better yet, wait a little longer for the vf900-cu by zalman to come out. Its suppose to be one sweet gpu cooler.
 
yeah they need to make that cooler stock for ati. btw yeah the card runs really hot. so hot the cooler has to scream to work. hope the zalman does the trick b/c they are nice cards.
