Question about Windows SMP Client

I've made the switch from the dual process of single clients into to a SMP Client however I'm not sure what I'm seeing is normal or not, I've done everything following to the readme file and I'm not sure if it's working correctly because I'm seeing only about 33% of my cpu taken up and not the usual 100% I'm used to seeing. Is this normal? Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind I've figured out the culprit here, the run as services doesn't work properly as I've found out. Now it's chugging along happily. Sure do hope that this'll net me more points... We'll see ;)
 
Another concern, I've been running it for a good while not and I've not completed a step yet. Been at least an hour on AMD X2 3800+ Stock. Any thoughts? [Forceasm and advmethods are both on]

Alright, since it took a bit more than two hours for one percent, I'm a little more than positive that this isn't running as it's suppose to be running. I'll go to sleep and wake up and see what it has to say then.
 
Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the Windozs Task Manager.
Look for 4 processes called FahCore_a1.exe.

Have you installed both Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 & 2.0.
You need 2.0 to run the client but I'm think without 1.1 it runs slow.
Thats something that I will test next time I install this client.

p2610 is the slow one for AMD boxes.
If you cannot get your time to under 55 mins per frame then it will time-out before you finish.

Make sure it is not running as a service as well. I had that problem where my frame times were really long, but it was also running as a service. Once I stopped and disabled the service, it worked fine.

First I installed it as services, things weren't working correctly, I looked up on this forum section about SMPing on windows and noticed that services are being somewhat rainbowy so I reverted the services to off and I am currently running this as an app by using a shortcut with the parameters -forceasm and -advmethods enabled. Thanks anyways.

I have four of them "FahCore_a1.exe" running and it came across to me that I had NET framework 3.0 installed and I went ahead and removed it, i had the following 1.1 and 2.0, there shouldn't be any problem with removing the 3.0 so far as I know nothing on my rig installed should requires 3.0 and if this doesn't goes well I'm fairly prepared to ditch the smp and revert back to dual clients, I still have the folder and the necessary files to resume folding on them.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks once again for the replies.
 
I had the same issue, I found that the mpiexec.exe was running nonstop @ about 30% cpu usage. cant remember how i got it to stop.I think it tried to start itself as a service..

Are you replying to my first post or the second one? if it's the first one, that has been fixed, and if it's the second one, please get back to me on that. As of current, I've reverted back to dual single clients so that I could fold and get points.
 
I just run it as a service. Just make sure you specify what account to run it under. Also, if you have a network outtage, reboot your PCs that are running it, that tripped me up yesterday...
 
The second, check on that mpiexec.exe in your task manager, should be @ zero cpu usage. Seems to me i found it being turned on in the services or startup in the setup config utility in windows. I wish i could be of more help but i'm at work right now and cant quite recall where exactly i found it. I will be shure to get back to you when i get home.
 
Its pretty clear now, it was running as a service even though i remember saying no when i set it up, after i disabled the service i found the mpiexec.exe was still running. after a reboot and i started the client with the fah.exe all was well.

So the mpiexec.exe isn't suppose to run? I've rebooted already and it's still running, so what's this service called? If I have to shut it down, i don't know what are suppose to be running at this point, i have this FahCore_a1.exe x4, smpd.exe, mpiexec.exe and fah.exe.

Alrighty I guess I have everything setup correctly, -forceasm and -advmethods flags are set to my shortcut to fah.exe. However it's taking me around 45 mins per rame [1%] is this even correct for my set up? AMD X2 3800+ 2 gig
 
You must be on 2610 WU? Amd's seem to not be in favor of the 2610's. My 165 Opty @ 2.5 is doing a 2610 right now and it's taking 33:00 mins/frame. My 3800X2 with 2gb is taking 1hour or more which is why I have taken the SMP off of it. It's a box @ work that is constantly being used so I figure that;s why. I am going to try a few different things to see if I can get the time down and hopefully be able to run the SMP version on that box. Even my 2ghz core duo ibm laptop is close to having trouble with the 2610's. Also, look in the thread http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1169923 and then the spreadsheet by Killer http://members.cox.net/foldinginfo/smp2.htm to check times for different systems & work units (Very Useful) and you can contribute to the spreadsheet once you get your times solid. I have not done this as I am have a little busy with just getting all of my boxes in order and running.
 
2610 WU it is... Alrighty should I disable -advmethods for the smp client, I'm not sure if this even makes any difference? lmk, thanks everybody.
 
at 45 mins a frame I think you should complete the WU on time. Use F@H Spy to monitor it. It won't show you how many PPD but it will show you the time the WU was issued to you ( WU started) the time that the WU is predicted to be done and the deadline. Try it and see if you can finish it on time. So far the 2610 is the hardest WU I have seen. Good night all, Good Luck Jon:D

The mpiexec.exe needs to be there but it should be sitting @ 0% cpu usage, The service I disabled was the FAH@C:+program file +Folding @home Windows SMP CLient V1.01fah.exe. Its weird becouse the client ran fine when i first set it uo but after my first stop and restart i got those crazy long checkpiont times, thats when i noticed the mpiexec.exe was going nuts.

JUst a side note i get about 31 mins a frame on the 2610's on the rig below i'm back at stock speeds for the moment becouse of some ram issues, so your not far off the mark.

Looks like I could use a simple overclocking ;) i can overclock mine to your speeds at ease... I'll do that and yes the mpiexec.exe is at 0% so I'm all set. And it seems that mine is within the parameters and also I am to finish the WU 8 hours before the deadline, as predicted by FAH SPY. thanks guys.
 
Anytime Jon, let me know what your 2610/frames are with that 3800X2 after the overclock:cool:

Got the X2 3800+ to cooperate with me, the motherboard was a little fussy and also I nearly killed my ram by setting the ram to run at 1:1 along with the cpu ;) Good thing the system didn't boot. CPU set to 240 * 10, RAM set to 166 dropped down from 200 and the HTT set to 800, dropped down from 1000.

Final results is that:
CPU = 2400Mhz @ 1.375v with vcore increase [feature of my mobo] which puts it to 1.4v
Multi = 10
Bus Speed = 240
HT Link = 960

RAM Freq = 200Mhz
FSB/DRAM = CPU/12
Timings are set to 3-3-3-7 2T down form 3-3-3-8 2T [Tighter, if proves to be unstable, will go back to 3-3-3-8]

CPU temps at load increased from 40c to 44c

My 165 does 33 minutes a frame at 2.4 at stock voltage on a p2610. This weekend, I'm going to try to get it wet and get that up to 2.8, maybe 3.0 with some voltage increases. I don't have enough money for a Q6600 yet, so the old box needs a boost!
