Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but with W7 you can have both Nvidia and ATI drivers installed at the same time, correct? So if I were to replace my ATI card with an Nvidia card, could I just install NvIDIA drivers before I put it in?

I don't think you can install drivers without an appropriate card being in the system. The driver install package will fail if there isn't a compatible card installed already.

From my experience, all you should need to do is slide the card in, turn on the computer, wait for Windows to install drivers and then restart.

The recommended way to install hardware in an operating system that does not have drivers for it is to install the drivers first, then insert the hardware. But, since Windows 7 has built in Nvidia drivers I see no reason to have to install the drivers first. Download the updates, install the card, then bring it up and run the driver installer.
