I know nothing about mac. the other day, I talked to this guy with a 15" pbook.
he told me about the virtualpc7.0 can run your mac like a pc. of course I took it with a grain of salt.
how good is that gonna be? :p

Virtual PC is like VMware Basically you can have one operating system as a host and other operating systems in virtual computers emulated by the main computer. VirtualPC is the software that performs the emulation.

So yes - you can run a virtual windows computer on an OS X system. With a 1.5Ghz Powerbook with 1.5 GB ram, windows XP is tolerable with all of the eye candy turned off. Win2k is decent on speed.

cool reply. actually, I think that guy was bs-ing me. he claims that running the virtualpc can be same as winxp. i mean...I assume he also means all those high demanding games like doom3 and other software can do the same.

i installed Vpc on my mac and it SSSSSUCKS it not even worth it i dont know how anybody could stand it! totaly useless.

What kind of system do you have?
Speed Ram etc

VPC runs fine on my 1.33 PB (758MBRAM) and runs really well on my Dualy 2Ghz G5 (2GB Ram)

It needs RAM more than anything. I had it on my iBook back when it had the stock 256MB of RAM in it. It swapped with the HD so much, I was ready to throw it across the room.

Doom 3 inside any kind of emulator? I sincerely hope you're kidding.

VPC 7.1 is supposed to supply some better graphics emulation. A 32 MB vid card of some sort IIRC.

Upping system RAM and upping RAM assigned to the VPC will help with performance as well as stripping out extraneous stuff from the UI of the XP system. When I went through and stopped/disabled the extraneous services and cut out the drop shadows and window animation, the VPC speed greatly increased.

i've got vpc7 on my 1.5ghz pb. only 768mb or ram right now(hopefully a gig pretty soon).

windows xp sucks so bad in it. windows2k isnt as bad. but i couldnt get duke3d to play under win2k very well, it locked up at the start screen

I use VPC all the time running windows 2000 because I need both a pc and mac for work and it's easier than carrying around 2 laptops. It works great for me.

VPC runs ok if you are not doing that much in it. Games and anything that taxes a real windows machine is pretty much out of the question in VPC. The best use for it is if you have software that will only run on a pc or need it to access the office network. If you really want to do a lot in it consider getting a pc notebook. Even a older used one would be faster.
