Question about venice

well unless this is some special case the answer is no, if you ever buy OEM it pretty much comes the way it is in the pic. in this case you will probably only get the cpu, you might get lucky and they will include some thermal paste. but if i was a betting man i would put my money on you just getting the cpu without anything else which means if you dont already have a hsf for it, you will need to get one. a lot of people would suggest a xp-90/120 or a zalman 7000/7700. i personally like the zalman 7700 but its all just personal pref.

and besides, stock HSF sucks anyways, add a bit more and get a better aftermarket one :)

No it doesn't. Have you actually tried it?

agreed, the stock heatsink is actually pretty decent for the 90nm cpu's, as it was designed for the 130nm which puts out a decent amount more heat

But a OEM Venice + 3 years warranty(15$) costs more than a retail one, so I guess it's better to get the retail one.. unless you don't care about the warranty..

The Thermalright is a very very very very very good cooling, like as water cooling, with a big delta screamer, and it can still be like 3-4 degrees better than the zalman with a super quiet 11db silenx fan..... so its not just preference. ;)

wow, you shut me up, :p

but maybe I am thinking about the presscotts :)

Do you guys think that Newegg will sell a 3500+ Venice with a stock HS soon?

toeless: i'm honestly not sure, check the website, it should give details on shipping somwhere

mobdta.. eventaully. hopefully within the next two weeks. we'll see ;)

Here is a review that shows just how good it is. ;)

The one I had has horribly rough on the bottom. You could move your fingernail across the bottom and it would make a clicky-scratchy noise, like running against the "grain of the metal." It has just horribly machine lapped, and what's worse is that it came with a 3700+ Clawhammer. Top of the line for that socket, and they put in a shitty, rough cooler? Very lame.

I had a good one with my 3000+ and with 4x 80mm fans and 1x 120mm fan in my case it kept my 3000+ o/c 2.2ghz with 1.55v @ 32-34c.

Got my Venice 3000+ retail Friday and it's up and running. With the AMD hsf and some as5, it's running at a cool 27C with no overclock. Sure beats the hell out of my 2500+ Barton that ran at 48C with a Volcano 10 hsf.

Thanks guys, I'll probably go with the 3500+ Venice (or maybe SD if it is better) when it comes out packaged with a stock HS

Is the venice a better Oc'er than the SD? Or around the same?

Personally, I might get the OC to around 3800 speeds. Nothing more. I am not an enthusiast.

I'me only 16 and don't have all the money in the world to spend also. Which is why I'me waiting till mid-to-end summer to get all this stuff

venice seems to be better on average, but i think it's still too early to tell
