My motherboard has a pretty bad vdroop on it. I was wondering which voltage should I watch. I have about a .1 drop on it. When I select 1.5, I get 1.4. From what Ive seen, 1.5 is about as high as you want to go on a prescott for normal use. Is this 1.5 what you see. or what you select in your mobo. To get 1.5 under load on my mobo, I would have to select 1.6 in the bios. Is this safe? I was goign to see what else I can get out of my little chip, but wanted to make sure I dont burn it up in the process. Im running it @ 4168 (245x17) with 1.5V selected. so its running this on 1.4 V. Just wanted to double check before I continue.
 
a 1.5v prescott=a ton of power, my 4 ghz prescott overloaded my dual 18 amp rail psu, which caused unstable 12v power, which stressed my max3's caps, they went pop, im dothan now and im enjoying my 200 watts full load power consumption compared to 430 watts prescott(can finaly have my system perfectly silent too)

i was running at ~1.6v when it nuked the mobo, the psu seemed stable, but the mobo didnt also keep in mind this was a socket 478 mobo....lga775 has 4 stage regulation compared to the 3 stage 478, power consumption between 478 and lga is no different
 
Ah ok. So u were pushin 1.5 V throught it using 1.6V selected? I know the power regs were running now, I put a couple sinks on them and I have a 80mm fan blowin across them, since I switched over to water, and didnt think about not having much air flow over them since I dindt have a CPU anymore.

no, i set it to 1.675 and was getting 1.575~1.625v
 
you should manually measure it. Also watch for drops from idle to load, thats whats important.

I have a pressy at 1.63v on an as8 and its doing around 5.3ghz.

My other one which is on a p4p800se which is 4 stage power regulation s478 im at 1.6v droops to 1.54-1.6 at 4.2ghz

you sure its 4 stage? i count 3 on my p4c which is a superior board, all my values are multimeter measured btw
 
Where do I measure the Vcore on the mobo with a MM? I know it droops when put under load alteast according to MBM5, but I know software measurements arent very good. The system im running is in my sig. I was going to get a dual core, but decided I woudl 1st see if I could get any more out of my current rig.

So if I measure the vcore, and verify it is drooping like I beleive it is, If i select 1.6 in bios, and it runs 1.6 @ idle, and 1.5 under load, thats Ok for the board? Given my temps are under control, and my power reg temps are ok.

Your P4c is not a supirior board, even if you think so. I owned 3 p4c and they couldnt get me the same overcloks the p4p800-se did. Also there are 2 versions of the p4p800-se one with 8 mosfets one with 12 i have the 12 one, but they dont make it anymore. It was asus's solution for the prescott.

it may have more mosfets but it doesnt have the canterwood chipset which in itself gets more performance per clock then springdale, makes sense to me why the latest revision of the p4p would have 4 stages, the p4c was never updated

the p4c is kinda like ic7's in they need mods to pwn, after there moded the p4c800-e is second only to the ic7-max3

there are quite a few cases where springdale gets some nice overclocked compared to canterwood, have you haver heared of the canterwood issue where you cant reach or go past 250 fsb on steppings beyond week xx, sorta like all of a sudden they dont oc anymore simmalar to after week xx athlon-xp's were mult locked
 
865 is 875 with out pat and pro video abilities. BUt you can turn on pat if your mobo is special. Liek the as8 i can do pat at 250. THe p4c is also a much more loaded board in term of features, plus it talks to you.

yes, springdale is speed binned canterwoods, there canterwoods that failed testing for 875

the talking thing is no good to me(got a x-fi), i tried it out, every time i would boot it would say cpu fan failed, that would get old.... fast
 
it help though when your cpu doenst work, but i could imagine it getting annoying.
