Question about using an Intel Expander

Hey guys. I currently have an LSI 9260-4i, and have four drives hooked up to it. I'm planning on buying an Intel SAS Expander. I have the drives each individually set up as a RAID 0, essentially just using the RAID card to be able to hook up lots of drives.

In order to hookup the expander, I'll need to plug the expander into the one SFF-8087 port on the LSI card, and then hook the hard drives up to the expander. Will this make the information on the drives unusable? Or will the data be accessible with the new setup?

It will still be using the same RAID card (albeit through the extender).

Thanks,

If the expander is like the HP expander use two 8087's for more bandwidth as well!

Though a bit of an old thread, for others facing the same in the future:

I just built a server with an Adaptec 6405 and then I added the Intel SAS Expander.

Originally, four drives were plugged directly in the Adaptec 6405 via 8087-->fanout cable. They were in a RAID-0 array.

When I put the expander into the mix and powered things up, my Adaptec controller reported that the drives for my array were in a new location. I was then given the chance to accept this change, or enter setup to reconfigure/edit things myself (with only 30 seconds to make a choice). I just press enter to accept the changes and the array came up just fine.
