I have been out of the loop with processors for a while.. I am running an overclocked i7-3770K.... Never felt the need to upgrade to the 4770/4771.. What/when is the next generation intel processors coming out? Are they going to be haswell-E chips?

There will be a Haswell refresh sometime this month. Higher clock speeds and they've supposedly fixed the TIM issue. The K series chips are due out in June. Haswell-E is supposed to be out sometime later this year from what I understand.

Doubtful that Haswell refresh will be a worthwhile upgrade although it should lower temps on the overclock.

Haswell-E will provide more performance for those few who can use the 16 threads.

What kinda stuff do you use your PC for?

If you're doing heavy CPU intensive stuff (video encoding or whatnot) you should be moving to a hex-core.
Otherwise you should be safe for a couple more ticks and tocks... probably until DDR4 hits ~$50/8gb and Intel octo-cores are in the mainstream desktop offering. Oh man... that will be a sight to see.

Agreed. Haswell is only what, like 5% faster than IB so that's certainly not worth the $300 itll take to "upgrade". That would be more like a side grade to me. Haswell-E will be cool and all but unless you will actually need and utilize 6 cores, that probably wont be worth it either.

$300 seems quite a bit high for an upgrade if you sell your current rig. I expect the cost for most to be around 1/2 of that.

Yeah, that's a point. Im a hoarder though and never sell any of my old gear so I just always assume other people are like me. :D

Even if OP sold his rig, I don't think it would still be worth it especially with the lower overclocking potential Haswell seems to have with the heat and all that. However if the refresh does indeed fix the TIM and heat issues and those things can clock up into the upper 4's then it might be worth it to spring for one. The fun factor of having a new toy to overclock is worth something too and having a brand spanking new chip that you don't have to de-lid could be a lot of fun to play with.

Fully Agreed.

I do light gaming (Diablo 3). But I am a heavy LR and Photoshop user. Some of my photography files can get pretty large.... I also do light video editing.. but none of the heavy video editing like movie production.....

Open task manager when you do these operations. Make sure you have it show every core then see if all of your cores are being used at nearly 100% during your video processing photo editing tasks. If the cores are being used at nearly 100% each Haswell-E will help. If they are not or only a few are near 100% then Haswell-E will not help.
