Question About Tv Tuners

The fusion card itself wont do any decoding. It will either let the software do it, or your video card. Your vid card must support DxVA which to my knowledge any ATI will do. So really the video card does the decoding.

The advantage of software is that it doesn't have to go through a bunch of circuitry back and forth through conversion filters and such. Eg, it can be a little bit higher quality being done almost purely in software. Also, theoretically, if you can find something that supports it, you might get even more out of it via well made software, whereas with hardware you can't really increase what it can do except by replacing it.

That said, like he mentioned with the winmodems, you have to rely heavily on that software. To the extent that if the software doesn't work or is unstable, you're basically screwed and have a very expensive paperweight with little sharp points on the bottom (the solder points.) Also, it can eat many CPUs for breakfast. I can only begin to imagine how awful it must have been on people who used winmodems while gaming online... (I always used hardware modems back then.)

Oh no, we weren't saying right now. The question is, might you want one in the future? All I was saying is you should think carefully about that possibility before deciding you would go with something that would be horrible in full screen. If you plan to never use it that way, or don't really care about the quality so much, by all means, choose the cheaper one. If you think maybe in a year or something you'll decide to have the tv in another room, you might want to consider if you want a tv tuner that can let you watch on the PC as if it were a tv.

do the hauppauge pvr 150's work with it?

Call me lazy, but, I'm just going to refer you to the official list rather than look it up myself: http://www.dscaler.org/card-support/index.htm

just tell me if i'll be able to view the quality as this on that same size?

First and last for sure. The second is a little clearer I THINK, but, it's hard to say for certain from a still.

BTW, DScalar isn't only for full screen. Even in a window you might get better quality out of it's IVTC filtering and such.

i've decided to go with teh winfast win go tv 2000xp...
