Question about TV Tuners and cable

I am looking at getting a TV Tuner soon for a PC in another room, and am in the dark about if they will work with my cable company. We have Charter Cable's digital package with all of the movie channels and I want to avoid getting another set top box. If I get a Tuner that does QAM, is that sufficient to be able to watch all channels or is it more involved than this?
 
QAM tuners can only receive unencrypted QAM, most of the HD digital cables will be encrypted and require cablecard (which you cant addon?) or a cable box.

Asking on AVSForum - Local HDTV Info & Reception about what clear QAM channels your cable provider transmits would be useful. Most only transmit the local broadcast stations unencrypted though. (i hear some dont send any unencrypted).

You are probably stuck with another cable box if you want ALL channels :(
