Question about thermal compound

i ordered some ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 thermal compound since it said No curing time but it doesnt seem right. my thermal that came with my hyper 212 was kind of a liquid in a sense but this stuff is almost like playdoh just not as soft

this means its bad right?

im going to order something else or the same paste is the MX-2 good stuff?

It might be thicker and it doesn't have to cure, but its not like your thinking. I just put 2 little rice size spots onto my heatsink...spread it thin and even with a razor blade. It's not like play dough..it spreads easy...and it doesn't cure like artic silver 5. It's good to go right away, no 2 week curing time.
If you read Hard review and a few others MX-2 is actually better than AS5. Although im sure that will be debated. I just happened to have it laying around...my e8400 came with past pre applied, but that did a horrible job in comparison.
 
Actually MX-2 is quite a good thermal compound in my opinion. It might be more difficult to applied. You might need to put it on the top of a TV for about half an hour to make it softer before application.
 
The Hyper212 comes with CoolerMaster thermal paste, which is based on Shin-Etsu.
 
ill try to put it on my tv for a bit to warm it up. i didnt think about warming it up alittle to make it a bit softer. believe me this stuff is thick no way i can get a good spread with it. yes but im not using the stuff that came with my hyper i got a new board so i figured id get new paste also.
 
MX-2 shouldn't be that kind of consistancy. IC Diamond on the other hand is more like play dough than anything I've used.
 
On applied correctly, Shin-Etsu stuff works great, these are my reading with a Hyper212.

I run my MX-2 tube under hot water for a few minutes. Heats it up good and makes spreading a lot easier.
