I've looked up a couple older threads about it. I'm drawn to it because it's 1200p, larger than 24 inches and unlike the older 27 inch Dells, I can still get it new with warranty. Most of these older threads regard it positively as an excellent "gaming" IPS panel. My questions is, for those who have one or have used one, how does it stack up against what's out there now?

There are a lot more IPS panels out there now. Back then it was a rare bird at greater than 24" and not costing between 1K and 2K.

The black levels will probably be inferior to many modern IPS models, and panel uniformity/ backlight bleed, was always an issue.

If perfect color accuracy is your goal, it's not a bad option at $800. If gaming is your goal, I can personally recommend the Panasonic televisions (32"+) for IPS and low lag. And as long as you know how to fiddle with setting on your PC and the TV to get the desired picture, they can look great for everything else too.

I recently bought a TC-L32E5 and was blown away at how far LED has come, very uniform and no bleed. At about 30" away it is awesome for gaming, the bigger the panel, the more IPS glow you get from close up though. So you may want to look else where if you don't have the option to move back.

After coming from an HP LP2475w, I can honestly say I am pleased. I shopped around and did tons of research before trying this TV, and it's the only option (besides used older Pannys) that I could think of that would be on par with the HP.

For reference, I can get it new, with full warranty, for $640.

EDIT: I tried a Panasonic L32U3 last year and found it to be too slow (ghosting), the E5 is quicker?

I don't know. It's on par with the HP LP2475w it replaced, maybe a little slower (8ms vs. 6ms). I know you need to switch the input label to "game", and use the "game" picture setting, to get optimal response.

$640 for the Planar is a great price, as long as you can exchange or return it with little or no cost.
